Be an Instrument of Peace and Love in this World

The last article provided a prayer for all of us to use during our challenging times.

In that prayer the words “be instruments of Your peace and love in this world“ were mentioned.

Study those words carefully.

Do you have an understanding of what it means?

Let me help.

Inside our daily lives there are countless opportunities to be instruments of God’s Peace and Love. This means acting in ways that reflect His teachings and bringing positivity to those around us.

Take a look at some of the ways we can do this.

1. Practice Kindness

Kindness is a simple yet powerful way to show God’s love. Small acts like helping a neighbor, listening to someone in distress, or even offering a smile can make a big difference. Jesus taught us to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31). By treating others with kindness, we reflect God’s love.

2. Forgive Others

Forgiveness can be challenging, but it is essential for peace. Holding onto grudges creates tension and conflict. Jesus emphasized the importance of forgiveness in Matthew 6:14-15, where He said, “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” By forgiving, we release negativity and foster reconciliation.

3. Listen and Support

Sometimes, being present and listening is the best way to show love. When someone is struggling, offering a listening ear and support can provide immense comfort. This act of compassion can bring peace to those who feel alone or misunderstood.

4. Promote Unity

In a world often divided by various differences, promoting unity is crucial. Ephesians 4:3 encourages us to “make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” This means respecting different viewpoints and finding common ground.

5. Serve Others

Jesus modeled servant leadership, teaching us to serve rather than be served (Mark 10:45). Volunteering, helping those in need, and putting others before ourselves are ways to serve. This selflessness demonstrates God’s love in action.

6. Share the Gospel

Sharing the message of God’s love and salvation can transform lives. This doesn’t mean preaching at every opportunity, but rather living out the gospel through our actions and words. As Peter advises in 1 Peter 3:15, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.“

7. Pray for Others

Prayer is a powerful way to support and uplift others. Praying for peace, healing, and guidance for those around us invites God’s intervention in their lives. James 5:16 reminds us that “the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

8. Show Patience and Understanding

People often struggle in ways we cannot see. Showing patience and understanding, especially in difficult situations, can be a profound act of love. This means being slow to anger and quick to listen, as advised in James 1:19.

9. Be Honest and Fair

Integrity and fairness are key aspects of living out God’s peace and love. This involves being truthful in our dealings and treating everyone justly. Proverbs 12:22 says, “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.”

10. Build Peace in Conflict

In times of conflict, being a peacemaker is crucial. Jesus called peacemakers “children of God” (Matthew 5:9). This involves mediating disputes, calming tensions, and striving for peaceful resolutions.

Being an instrument of God is difficult for us as humans with all the challenges and temptations we face a minute of the day. Practicing continuously will help us fulfill our call to be God’s representatives.  These are just a few suggestive steps to take and remember as we walk through this uneasy world to help others.
