When we approach the throne of grace, it is often with our own burdens in hand—our needs, our hopes, our struggles. And while our Heavenly Father delights in hearing from us, the Word of God calls us to a higher and deeper purpose in prayer: to intercede for others.
The Bible tells us in Philippians 2:4, “Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.” True Christian love reaches beyond self. It sees the pain in another’s eyes, hears the silent cries of the broken, and answers by falling on its knees in prayer.
There are people today who are cold, hungry, and afraid. Many face battles behind closed doors—abuse, loneliness, sickness, or despair. They may not have the strength to pray, but we can stand in the gap for them. Our prayers can become a lifeline, a covering, a plea before God on their behalf.
Jesus Himself prayed for others—even those who wronged Him. In Luke 23:34, He said, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” If our Lord could pray for His persecutors, surely we can lift up the weak, the wounded, and the weary.
Let us not only be hearers of their suffering but doers of the Word—bringing their needs to the feet of the Almighty. For in praying for others, we draw closer to the heart of Christ.
A Prayer for Others in Need
Heavenly Father,
I come before You in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, lifting up the needs of others who are in distress. Lord, You see the hungry, the poor, the cold, and the brokenhearted. You know those who are abused, mistreated, and forgotten. I pray that You would send help from Your sanctuary and strengthen them.
Let Thy mercy cover them, O Lord. Provide food to the hungry, shelter to the homeless, and protection to the innocent. Let Thy hand be upon the hurting and bring comfort where there is pain. Deliver the oppressed, and cause the wickedness of the wicked to come to an end.
Raise up people of compassion, and let Your Church be a light in dark places. Use me, Lord, however Thou wilt, to be an answer to the prayers of others.
In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen.
