Early in the Morning with Jesus

Mark 1:35 tells us, “And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.”

I picture the quiet before sunrise, when the world is still and shadows linger. Jesus slipped away from the crowds, away from the demands, to find a place where it was just Him and the Father. The Son of God Himself, who carried all authority and power, chose to seek silence and prayer before the day began.

I know how easy it is to let the day rush in. The to-do list grows, voices call, and the hours slip away before I even think about prayer. Yet here, Jesus sets the example. He carved out space to listen, to speak, to rest in His Father’s presence before anything else touched Him. Prayer was not an afterthought for Him, it was the starting place.

This verse reminds me that solitude with God is not wasted time. It is strength for what lies ahead. If Jesus needed it, how much more do I? In prayer I find alignment, a steady heart, and a clear reminder that my day belongs to the Lord, not to me.

There is beauty in those early moments when the world is quiet. It is in that stillness that I can hear His voice more clearly. My prayers may not be long or eloquent, but they can be honest. They can be offered in the same spirit of Jesus rising early, slipping away, and choosing the Father above all.

So I ask myself each morning: before the voices, before the noise, before the demands, will I seek Him first? Because the way I begin can shape the rest of the day that follows.
